The poodle skirt was fashionable in the 1950s. It is a wide, full skirt. But where did it get the name poodle skirt?

It was called poodle skirt because of the appliqued poodle that is placed near the hem. But not all skirts had a poodle. Some had cats, flamingos and even hot rods.

It has a wide waistband and is typically in a bold, solid color with pink, blue and red being especially popular.
